Friends of First United Methodist Church,

It has been a difficult week for our church family, and we are trying to be sure that all persons who call this church home have heard our sad news.  Michael Stephenson, Director of Children and Youth Ministries at First UMC, fell and sustained a grave head injury late Sunday evening.  He was transported to the hospital immediately.  On Tuesday he died from that injury.  We have been gathering for prayer and remembrance and trying to find our footing in the wake of a tremendous outpouring of grief and love. 

We will celebrate his life and his ministry among us on Sunday, May 19 at 5 P.M. in the sanctuary.  Further details will become available soon.  It is likely that we will conclude our time together with a meal like those he shared with our youth so often on Sunday evening.  (think mac n cheese with chili and s’mores!) 

I hope you will plan to join us for a time of remembrance. Our pastors stand ready to help anyone who needs a prayer, a hug, or a listening ear. We miss him terribly, and know you will, too.  Many wonderful folks from the church are stepping forward to keep all of our ministries to our younger folks vibrant and helpful.
