Orchard: Africa is a non-profit organization that offers mission trips into South Africa in an attempt to create sustainable change in rural African Villages. In Africa, 5000 people die from AIDS every day. Often it is the parents of children that die and leave their children to the aged grandparents. Once the grandparents die off, the children must fend for themselves. Orchard Africa is working to change that!
Orchard: Africa empowers the church to be a sustainable source of hope.
Orchard: Africa networks with pastors enabling them to become community leaders that serve vulnerable children and adults in South Africa.
Would you like to be a source of help that reaches out to those orphans and widows in a time of deep distress?
First United Methodist Church is planning an international mission trip with Orchard: Africa to Cape Town, South Africa, this summer.
When: Summer 2015
Why? To serve the least of these (Matthew 25)
What: Work with local church pastors and congregations in support of their children’s ministries and community service. Visit various pre-schools and home bound church members during the mornings. Conduct vacation bible school during the afternoons for 30 plus children. Working directly in the township of Khayelitsha.
Estimated Cost: $4,000.00 per person includes airfare and Orchard: Africa fee. Covers all lodging, meals, and transportation, and local tours/sight seeing while in country.
Fundraisers will be set up in the church and in the Gilbert community in order to help offset the costs for this vital mission trip. We are still looking for a few people to commit to this experience. Won’t you come with us and enjoy this once-in-a-lifetime experience?
