Creation Care and Our Church Grounds
John Wesley believed that all of creation reveals God's glory and that we are called to be faithful stewards of the earth. He reminded us that caring for God's world is part of loving God and loving our neighbor.
This week during the Monday, August 25th Monsoon, one of our beloved trees came down on our church grounds...one of the trees right up front by our sanctuary. And in recent months we've had several trees lose limbs or need to be removed as diseased or having suffered loss from drought or storms.
We grieve the loss of these trees - they offered shade, beauty, and a quiet reminder of God's provision. At the same time, the falling reminds us of how deeply connected we are to creation. Trees mark the seasons of our lives, and they call us to gratitude for the gifts of God's good earth.
As Wesley taught, holiness of heart and life includes the way we live in relationship with creation. Our Trustees and our Renovation committees are working on plans to restore this relationship with creation on our campus as we move out of Summer and into the season for planting. May this moment inspire us to care even more tenderly for the world around us - planting, protecting, and giving thanks for all that God has entrusted to us.
Faithful then. Faithful now. Faithful always.
