Prayers for Sandy Hook Elementary School Victims and Families

Words of faith from United Methodist Bishop Bob Hoshibata.
Deep sorrow and grief envelop the nation at the tragic shooting at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut.  I hope that every congregation of United Methodists will pray on Sunday, and that each of us will lift up in our private prayers those whose lives have been marred by this tragic and utterly senseless evil.  We pray for the families of those whose lives were taken, for the …

children and staff of the school, for the many who are providing support and counseling and for the family of the perpetrators. I pray also that we will find a way to come to decisions as individuals and through our laws that the incidence of this kind of violence can be reduced, even eliminated. Let us lean on our faith for strength in these difficult times as we turn to God, “who consoles us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to console those who are in any affliction with the consolation with which we ourselves are consoled by God” (2 Corinthians 2:4).
