Jesus Is Coming in Song

As we sat down to dinner a few days ago, my wife, Wendy, put on a CD in the living room- it was a male, tenor voice, singing some language that sounded like Italian. This guy was really singing, going up and down and all around! While I was eating Wendy was listening to the music with her eyes closed and a smile on her face- even a tear here and there. And my first comment was "What is he saying? He's not speaking English. Why are you listening to something you can't understand?" And Wendy's reply went something like this "His voice is like an angel- I don't need to understand the words to enjoy the song- it's so beautiful."

In this Advent season, as we prepare ourselves for Christmas, I think God continues to come to us in power, in humility and in song . Sometimes I can understand what God is saying to me, but many times, especially during this season of great music, I do not need to understand the words in order to feel God's Spirit alive in me as I experience His song of love, peace and joy in my heart- which was Mary's experience, I believe, as we see in the Gospel of Luke chapter 1:

"My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, for he has looked with favor on the lowliness of his servant. Surely, from now on all generations will call me blessed; for the Mighty One has done great things for me, and holy is his name."

Enjoy the song God sings in your heart!
